Why are audits important?

Audits are the most reliable tool available to achieve transparency for what happens in factories and on farms. They allow companies to assess the social compliance of their operations in relation to the BSCI Code of Conduct. Audits provide the grounds to define the necessary steps for continuous improvement. Those steps include capacity building activities, which provide the business partner skills and knowledge to roll out the code and any corrective action plan (CAP). CAPs are recommended when the audit results are either “Bad” or “Improvement Needed”. They are evaluated along with compliance to the code in a “re-audit”.
